This is what the rest of the world thinks we do all the time. It's another of those great traditions- free food and drink, gowns, and a chance to live a bit of the life that everyone thinks you're living here.
It's a formal(ish) dinner in the College Hall, so everyone wears their gowns, dresses up and you have drinks with your tutor or DoS beforehand. They'll also be speeches from the Principal, Dame Patricia Hodgson, and your JCR President, Sophie. It's a chance to celebrate your arrival surrounded by lots of new friends and give you a taster of what Newnham's formal halls are like. Also in attendance will be the Scholars (students who did very well in last year's exams), the JCR Committee, and the choir.
