Important things to be done in the first week include.......
Your DoS is the person responsible for the academic side of your life in Cambridge. You'll meet with them at the beginning and end of every term to discuss your work. In your first week you and your subject group will be introduced to them.
Tutors are one of the most important people in your university life, and your first port of call should you have any problems that college can help with, be they financial, academic or personal. Your tutor will be someone unrelated to the subject that you study and who is responsible for your general welfare while you are at Newnham. You'll have to see her quite soon, and she'll explain what you need to do at her introductory party.
This is simply so you can get registered at the local surgery.
You must visit the bursary soon after you arrive to pay bills and provide financial assessments. Home students will have loans paid directly into their banks, while overseas students with grants may pick these up from the Fees and Grants Office in the first week. If you are a home student, make sure you have your Student Loans and LEA grants sorted BEFORE you arrive, as money is quite important for buying food and going out!!! You should have recieved lots of information about this. If you find yourself in any financial difficulty or confusion, contact your tutor or the financial tutor- whatever you do don't suffer in silence or ignore the financial side of things!
Sounds scary, but it's actually quite fun. It's basically your formal entrance to Newnham and the University, and another excuse to wear your gown for half an hour! Also note that you don't have to wear black and white at Newnham, just smart. Each subject has a particular time slot- look out for another useful piece of information in your pigeonhole!!
