Newnham's LBGT Rep for this year is Francesca. She's here to make sure that, whether you’re Bisexual, Lesbian, Transgender, or not quite sure, your time a Newnham is as happy as possible! In her role as LBGT officer, she's also the president of NewBiLes (Newnham’s LBGT society), organising social events throughout term. She's also here to provide welfare support for LBGT students. So, if you’re feeling unhappy, confused, or need information, support or contacts on issues from coming out to sexual health, then do get in touch. If you have any worries or questions, you can email her at jcr.lbgt@newn.cam.ac.uk
Newnham is an extremely LBGT friendly college, and the LBGT society NewBiLes holds frequent socials, such as film nights, formal swaps, meals and drinks nights. If you want to be kept up-to-date with NewBiLes events, just email jcr.lbg and ask to be added to the NewBiLes list. Signing up to this list means that you'll also be kept up-to-date with LBGT events university-wide. If you have any requests or ideas for NewBiLes events, do let your LBGT Rep know. And, of course, absolutely anyone is welcome to come to events, LBGT or otherwise!
Cambridge has a very vibrant and active gay scene. The biggest regular event is the weekly CUSU LBGT night Rendezvous, every Tuesday night from 10pm at Vodka Revolutions. There is also weekly women’s coffee on Wednesday at 5.30pm in Clowns Cafe, and mixed-gender Sunday Socials are also held around Cambridge on a weekly basis. Check the LBGT notice board in college, the CUSU LBGT website or with your LBGT Rep for more details about any of these events.
The LBGT Rep is also a member of the JCR Welfare Committee. This means that she's always available if you ever need information, support, contacts, or just a cup of tea and a chat about any issues involving sexuality or gender you might have. She can also provide advice on sexual health. Just drop her an email and arrange a time and place to meet - or correspond entirely by email, if you prefer. As always, confidentiality is an absolute priority. The CUSU LBGT Welfare Officer is also a fantastic contact if you need any welfare advice and don't feel like approaching your Rep. They can be contacted at welfare@cusu-lbgt.com, and the Help and Support section of the CUSU LBGT website is another very useful resource.
