Support for ethnic minorities

Hi, my name is Divya and I'm the Ethnic Minorities officer this year! I'm
here to ensure the welfare and support of ethnic minority students. I'm the
person to contact should any student of ethnic minority need to chat about
any issues, whether they be major or minor, related to ethnic background or
not. During the course of the year, I will be organising international film
evenings as well as fun cook-outs - so look out for them! Part of my role is
to liaise with Access and Admissions to encourage applications from ethnic
minority students. I'm always open to hearing any suggestions, issues or
questions - please don't hesitate to get in touch :)

Welfare

Part of our JCR committee is dedicated to your welfare and my part
to Ethnic Minorities welfare. If you want any support, advice, or just
someone to share something on your mind with, feel free to email me and we can talk face to face, or however you please. Everything will be kept as
confidential as you wish.

What does the University offer for Ethnic Minorities?

The ‘Ethnic Minority’ students form part of a larger body of students that can best be seen in cultural and religious societies. So from CUACS (Cambridge University African Caribbean Society) to CUJS (Cambridge University Jewish Society) there’s a lot on offer. Each society is there for you in the way of welfare or information – or just a group of friends with common interests. The Students Union also has a ‘Black Students Campaign’ which looks out for the needs and interests of Black Students (note that ‘Black Students’ here is anyone that considers themselves of other than white background). They have their own Welfare Officer and will hold events such as a Careers Fair especially for Ethnic Minorities or events in celebration of our diverse cultures. If you’re interested or want more information about the University has to offer please get in touch and I’ll be happy to fill you in!
