Newnham Badminton Club

President: Ada (aedt2)
Vice President : Dana (dm537)

Newnham Badminton Club is open to all members of the college and to players of all abilities. Members of the badminton club can chose to play competitively or just for fun.

Practices are held every Saturday from 5-7pm at the Leys School Sports Centre (which is very close to college). We supply shuttles for both matches and practices and we also have a number of rackets if you do not have your own.

We currently have 3 teams in the intercollegiate league. This means that if you want to play competitively there will be a team for you, whatever your ability.

If you would like more information about the club, please contact Ada (aedt2) or Dana (dm537) or just come along to a practice session.

Newnham Basketball Club

Captain: Angel Kwan (hk347@cam.ac.uk)
Manager: Zijun Yu (zy236@cam.ac.uk)

Newnham Basketball Club is a club for basketball players of any proficiency
level. Whether you play for the university team or only encountered
basketball in your PE class or haven't touched a basketball before, as long
as you are interested in joining the sport, you are welcome to join our
team (:

We currently play in the inter-collegiate league against other colleges and
have some female members from other colleges joining our team as well.
Practices are usually from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Fridays at the Tennis Courts
in Newnham. Matches are about twice a term on Sundays at Kelsey Kerridge
Sports Centre.

If you would like some exercise, make new friends or are just interested in
playing basketball, please contact Zijun (zy236) or Angel (hk347) or simply
come along for the practice sessions on Fridays.

Newnham College Athletics

Captain: Grace Copplestone (gmpc2@cam.ac.uk)

Two Cuppers athletics competitions are held every year at the track on Wilberforce Road. It's a really fun way to try out different athletics events in an informal setting. Emails will be sent around nearer the time but get keen for some inter college competition.

Also email me if you would like more information regarding university athletics.

Newnham College Boat Club

Captain: Gemma-Claire Ali (gca22@cam.ac.uk)
Vice Captain: Lucy Stooke (lvs24@cam.ac.uk)

Newnham College Boat Club is a women's boat club at the heart of the University of Cambridge. We were founded in 1893 and have pioneered women's rowing at this university. Over 100 years later we are still going strong! We are the oldest and most successful women's boat club in town and look back on a proud tradition. In addition to races on the Cam, our rowers have gone on to compete in national and international regattas with phenomenal success - most recently at the Beijing Olympics.

Looking for an activity that is challenging, stimulating, loads of fun and squarely based on friendship and teamwork? Join NCBC - there is much to discover!

Info on past and upcoming events

NCBC crews compete in races both on the Cam and off, most notably in the Lent and May Bumps at the end of Lent and Easter Term respectively. In addition, we regularly host cocktail parties, boat club dinner and garden parties to make sure our members have as much fun off the river as on it.

Novicing takes place in Michaelmas and Easter Term.

Check out the the NCBC website and Wikipedia article for more info.

Newnham College Football Club

Marta Karbowska (mmk42@cam.ac.uk)
Gaylen Sinclair (gs424@cam.ac.uk)

Newnham College Football Club is a society that aims to help its members get fit and have fun at the same time. Games are played weekly in the University's college league (division 2) as well as in Cupper's matches which are every other week. There is usually one practice per week and games are played on Saturday afternoons. Even if you've never touched a football, this can be the society for you! The football club is all about being active and meeting other like-minded people while learning a bit about the game of football. There are of course regular socials and swaps with sporting societies from other colleges. Please drop me an email (mig28) if you would like to know more!

Newnham College Lacrosse Club

Captain: Sam Davie (sjd77@cam.ac.uk)

Newnham College Lacrosse Club meets approximately twice a week, with one practice session and a match at the weekend. The lacrosse club plays in the Cuppers (inter-collegiate) mixed lacrosse league and at the end of the 09/10 season has moved into the top division! The lacrosse club, although based at Newnham, is joined on a regular basis by players from Pembroke, Robinson and Fitzwilliam colleges and is always on the lookout for new recruits who are looking to play mixed lacrosse at college level. Please contact the captain for more information.

Newnham College Lacrosse Club is a lively society for players of all abilities, from complete beginners to University level. Come along and give it a go!

Newnham College Pool Club

Captain: Emma Pewsey (ep320)

If you enjoy playing pool (whether or not you're any good at it!) or want
to learn how to, then this is the society for you! We compete in the
Women's division of the college leagues (which we won last year!) and hold
regular practices in the bar - to find out more, email Emma to be added to
the mailing list.

Newnham College Rugby

Captain: Laura Duke lmd42@cam.ac.uk

We play joint with Sidney and have one match a week during the Michaelmas & Lent terms, competing in the college league with cuppers at the end.

Newnham Netball Club

Captain: Emma Griffiths (edg28)

Newnham Netball Club is a friendly society that doesn't take itself too
seriously and a great way to meet people from other years at college!

We usually have one practice as well as a game against another college
team, which is often held at our college courts. Players of all abilities
are welcome to come along: we have two teams representing the college so
everyone can be fitted in somewhere.

Not only do we have loads of fun, we have had a fantastic season this year with the 1st team winning the 1st division and the 2nd team being promoted!

Newnham Running Club

Grace Copplestone (gmpc2@cam.ac.uk)

The Newnham Running Club goes out about once a week. Rather than doing long slow runs which can be rather boring we normally jog out to a college field and do a session consisting of a few shorter faster efforts. This means noone gets left behind, you get stronger at running more quickly and it's more fun.

Timings vary from week to week but we normally complete the session and get back to college within the hour. If you're interested send me an email and I'll add you to the mailing list.

Newnham Squash Club

The Newnham Squash Team is a small team who
play other colleges on a weekly basis. Unfortunately we don't have a court
to practice on but I hope this can change next year. We made the final of
Squash cuppers. New players are always wanted!
